HSEM URGES PREPAREDNESS FOR HURRICANE EARL
CONCORD, N.H. – While it is too early to determine the path of Hurricane Earl or its potential impact on New Hampshire, Christopher M. Pope, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, urges state residents and visitors to monitor the progress of the storm and take appropriate precautions as necessary.
“How much Hurricane Earl will affect New Hampshire will depend on the storm’s path. But with the Labor Day weekend approaching and people participating in outdoor activities, we continue to monitor weather conditions and we urge New Hampshire citizens and visitors to do the same,” Pope said.
Depending how close the storm passes by New Hampshire, it could bring high wind and heavy rain to New Hampshire. Director Pope said it is a good idea for residents and visitors to plan ahead:
· Monitor hurricane watches and warnings from the National Weather Service on NOAA Weather Radio or radio and TV newscasts.
· Prepare for the needs of pets, service animals and livestock;
· Be prepared to secure outdoor furniture or other items that might blow around in the case of high winds.
· In the event of heavy rains, watch nearby rivers and streams for rapidly rising water and have an evacuation plan.
New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management will continue to communicate with the National Weather Service and local emergency management responders regarding the potential path of the storm.
