As of October 1, 2009, our calls for service are slightly ahead of last year (at this time), as logged by our Communications Division. Adult arrests have risen as has our motor vehicle activity. Reported property crimes have remained static much to our surprise, in spite of a poor economy. Unfortunately, the reported sexual assaults have doubled over last year.
Our three-year grant application for a new police officer position under the President’s Stimulus Packet was relegated to a later 2009-2010 Federal review, which I view as essentially being denied. Currently, we are at full-strength.
Our residents in general are still suffering significant economic hardships and I do not see those conditions changing anytime soon. As such, we do not anticipate making any changes in budgeting in the new year.
As always, we remain committed to our Town and will do our level-best to continue to seek ways to improve.
Thank you,
Stephen C. Savage,
Chief of Police
