The Town of Plaistow Police Department is currently seeking a full-time Victim Witness Advocate.  Applicants must be at least 21 years old, possess a minimum of an Associates Degree, Bachelor Degree preferred, valid driver’s license, U.S. citizenship, and strong communication and writing skills.  Applicants must be dedicated and passionate in providing support and assistance to victims and witnesses of crimes.

Successful candidates will possess:
  • The ability to effectively interview victims and witnesses of crime;
  • The ability to identify and be responsive to the needs of victims of crimes;
  • The ability to establish rapport with individuals of differing ethnic, social, and economic backgrounds; and
  • Interpret and explain program laws, rules, and regulations and orients victims and witnesses to the criminal justice system.
The Victim Witness Advocate shall provide services including but not limited to advising victims of services available to them, including outreach programs, referring victims to professional care providers, and explaining the process of the criminal justice system.  Also accompany victims and witnesses to court for hearings and performing related work as required.  The Victim Witness Advocate will work closely with the Rockingham County Assistant Attorney and assists victims throughout the Plaistow District Court catchement, which includes the surrounding Towns of Atkinson, Danville, Kingston, Hampstead, and Newton.  This position is partially funded through a grant by the NH Department of Justice.
As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a thorough and detailed personal background investigation, as well as psychological, polygraph and medical examinations. The background investigation includes employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct.

Benefits under the Plaistow Police Collective Bargaining Agreement with Teamsters Local 633 to include but are not limited to health, dental, life insurance, earned time off, and short & long term disability.

Starting hourly rate is $18.45 per hour.

The Plaistow Police Department is currently seeking motivated candidates to fill the vacancies for the positions of Operations Captain and Administrative Captain.  

Plaistow is a busy community located on the border of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The Police Department has $1.9 million dollar budget which funds 18 full-time Police Officers, 2 part-time Police Officers, a 24/7 Dispatch Center staffed by 5 full-time Dispatchers and 1 part-time Dispatcher, 1 Animal Control Officer, 2 Crossing Guards, 2 full-time Administrative Assistants, 1 part-time Records Clerk, 1 full-time Victim/Witness Advocate, and 1 Prosecutor.  

Successful candidates must be willing to proactively engage with the community, have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and must demonstrate fair and consistent leadership. Management experience in a union setting is preferred but not mandatory, Job descriptions for each position are available for review.     

Resume review will take place in July of 2015 and successful candidates will be invited to participate in an interview process which will take place during August of 2015.  A projected start date for these positions will be in September/October of 2015.
  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of  demonstrated education and experience within the law enforcement field .
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience including five years in a supervisory position (Master Patrol Officer or above).
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, certification as a full-time officer as required by the New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Council.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Annual Salary range is: $70,000.00 to $75,000.00 annually.

  • Ability to take private police details.
Required to complete a Professional Review Board, written response essay questions, background investigation, and any other testing procedures mandated by the Town of Plaistow.
