The Tax Year is from April 1 to March 31
Plaistow's Tax Bill are due semi-annually in the Months of July and December and are usually mailed one month prior to the due date. The first bill, due in July covers 4/1 to 9/30 and is usually mailed out near the end of May. It is an estimate based on one half of the last years total taxes. The tax rate is then set by the N. H. State Dept. of Revenue Administration, usually sometime in October or first of November. The second bill, due in Dec. covers 10/1 to 3/31 and is usually mailed by the end of October. It is calculated using the new tax rate multiplied by your property's assessed value as of April 1st, less any payments made on the first bill.
The total taxes for the year is comprised of the first and second bill. Interest is due starting the day after the bills are due at a rate of 12% per annum, pro-rated on a daily rate, in accordance with NH law. If your taxes have not been paid by the due date please contact this office for a payoff figure.
Tax Payers Responsibility:
It is the responsibility of the owner to know that taxes are due and payable twice a year. If an owner has not received a bill for each property owned they should contact the tax office. If you have a mortgage company that pays your taxes, please forward the bill to them.
It is also the responsibility of the tax payer to notify the tax or assessing office in writing of a change in mailing address for the tax bill. You may download a change of address form by clicking on the downloadable forms tab.
