Landfill

I. Hours of Operation: The Landfill Facility will be open two (2) Saturdays a month from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. pending weather and/or facility conditions. The landfill will also be open two (2) Wednesday evenings a month from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from May to September. As a general rule, the facility will be open the first & third Saturday unless such day falls on, just before, or just after a Town of Plaistow observed holiday. In this case, another Saturday will be assigned by the Highway Supervisor/ Foreman.

II. Usage of the Facility: Only Town of Plaistow residents shall be admitted into the facility. All residents entering the facility may be asked for proof of residency at anytime by the facility attendant (driver’s license, cable bill, tax bill). In cases where residents must borrow an out of town vehicle to bring accepted materials into the facility, the resident must accompany the vehicle with each trip.

Materials Accepted:

ONLY the following items will be accepted at the Plaistow Landfill Facility:

Brush: As defined by Air Resources Division Administrative Rules ENV-A 1000; “Brush”, defined to mean tree tops, limbs, saplings, and tree cuttings to include attached leaves, which are five inches in diameter or less. Also accepted in the same pile as brush will be “untreated wood”, defined to mean timber, board, or sawn dimensional lumber which has not been treated, coated, or preserved. This term does not include any manufactured building material, such as plywood or wafer board.

  • There will be no building or demolition debris accepted.
  • NO SMOKING is allowed near the brush pile.

Metals: Most metal items will be accepted with the following exceptions and/or conditions: Items such as vehicle gas tanks, metal barrel drums, and home heating oil tanks must be EMPTY, CLEANED completely, and CUT IN HALF prior to entering the facility.

Items such as engines, transmissions, and rear ends must be DRAINED of all fluids prior to entering the facility.

  • Propane bottles or tanks will NOT be accepted.
  • Air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, freezers, and any other item that has, or once had FREON in it will NOT be accepted.

Yard Waste: Leaves, grass clippings, pine needles, and mulch will be accepted but must be separate from brush and metal. Yard waste must be removed from all bags with the bags being removed from the facility by the resident.

Special Notes:

  • NO COMMERCIAL DUMPING will be allowed at this facility.
  • NO HAZARDOUS WASTE will be accepted at this facility.

Items may only be removed from this facility with the express permission of the Highway Supervisor or his/her designee. The person removing the item(s) assumes all risk and liability associated with the removing of the item(s).

Days and hours of operation and items accepted may change without notice by the Town Manager, Board of Selectmen, and/or the Highway Supervisor.

Special access to the facility shall be at the discretion of the Highway Supervisor or Foreman.
