Sports



1.   How old does my child need to be to start T Ball? Age 5

2.   Do you have scholarships for families in financial distress? Yes.

3.   Do we need a copy of our child’s birth certificate at baseball or softball registration? Yes

4.   At what age to the teams for baseball and softball start traveling to other towns? Pony League Baseball and Softball.

5.   Does my child need cleats? Cleats are optional, recommended for ages 10 and up.

6.   Do we buy the uniform? No uniforms are provided by the town.

7.   How are we notified if a game is cancelled due to inclement weather? Your coach will notify you.

8.   What month are sign ups in? November.

 

 

 

Summer Recreation Program

1.   When does registration open for the summer recreation program? The Thursday before April vacation, 3:00 to 4:30 atTown Hall.

2.   Do children need a lunch? Yes they need a lunch everyday unless it is our weekly cook out.

3.   What is the earliest time we can drop off? 9:00 am

4.   What is the latest time we can pick up? 4:00 pm

5.   Do all children have to go on field trips? Field trips are offered to all children but they are optional. If you do not go on the field trip you need to keep your child home.

6.   Is there a cost for the inclement weather trips? No additional fee for these days, it is incorporated in your weekly registration fee.

7.   When you take a water trip ie Pawtuckaway/Cedardale/Wallis Sands etc are there life guards there? Yes, we do not go to any water destination without life guards.

8.   Are the younger children and the older children in groups together? Yes they are except when we go to Canobie Lake (there is a height requirement there). Children benefit from multi age  
groups especially with the theme weeks.

9.   Do you travel by bus for field trips or cars?  Always a bus.

10.   Do you allow chaperones on field trips? Yes we can always use additional eyes on a field trip.

11.   What happens when my child needs to use the bathroom? Your child never leaves the group alone, they will be accompanied by two counselors/chaperones to the bathroom and back.

12.   Are children allowed to bring money on the field trips? Yes, we send home on the permission slip a recommended amount of money they could bring. We do not buy souvenirs or do the games.

13.   Should children wear their bathing suits to rec or bring them daily? There are days we will have a water slide if the weather is warm we may do the slip and slides, if you know it is going to be very warm they can wear their suit under their clothes, or they can bring it in a bag with a towel.

14.   How old is the summer staff and how long have most of them been with you? 19 to 21 years old, many have been with the program since they were six.

15.   Do you have a lost and found? Yes.

16.   Do you take checks and who should they be made out to? Yes, we take checks payable to the Town of Plaistow.

17.   How do we pay for field trips? Field trips are a separate check payable to the Town of Plaistow, a permission slip will come home with your child. Please sign the permission slip and return with a check for the trip the following day.

18.   When there is inclement weather do you close for the day or move to another facility? We do not close if the weather is inclement, we will be going to Pollard School or the Town Hall.

19.   What is the ration between camper and staff? 10 campers to 1 staff at a maximum.

20.   What is provided for afternoon snack? We have a wide variety of snacks - cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, ice cream, freeze pops, popcorn, bagged snacks, sundae’s, popsicles along with many others.

 

 

Senior Programs

 

1.   Where do the buses leave from for senior trips? The Vic Geary Senior Center, 18 Greenough Road, Plaistow, NH

2.   Where are trips/events/socials advertised? Carriage Towne News, Vic Geary Newsletter, www.plaistow.com web site and the Plaistow Local Access channel 17.

3.   Do you have to live in Plaistow to register for a trip? No, but Plaistow residents have first refusal then the trip is opened up to non residents.

5.   Is there a guide/chaperone on the senior trips? Yes

6.   Do I need to register for monthly luncheons at restaurants? Yes, you register with Joyce at 382-9276

7.   Do I need to register for monthly teas? No

8.   Is the Vic Geary part of the Recreation Department? No the Vic Geary is owned by the American Legion and rented to the Vic Geary Center for $1.00 a year as a senior center.

9.   Could the Vic Geary use volunteers? Yes

 

 

Recreation Events

 

1.   Is there a charge for Toddler Trick or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, Pumpkin Lighting or Ornament Decorating? No

2.   Do we need to register for Toddler Events? Yes you do, you can either leave a message on 382-5200 ext or e mail cmalette@plaistow.com.

3.   How do we find out about activities and events in Town? Cable Access Channel, Web Site www.plaistow.com , Carriage Towne News or come to Town Hall and pick up a schedule. 

4.   What ages is the coloring contest for? Ages 4 to 12

5.   What ages are Toddler activities for? Age’s newborn to anyone not in first grade.

6.   Do you have Community trips to the Circus, Disney on Ice, Monarchs or Fisher Cats? We do. It depends on the economy and the availability of tickets. Check out our web site, it will be posted on there if we get tickets.
