The Plaistow Police Department Communications Center is seeking applicants for an eligibility roster for a Full-time Public Safety Dispatcher. This frontline position provides a valuable service to the public as the first contact for those in need of police, fire, or emergency medical services. This position requires someone with strong communication skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast paced (and sometimes, high stress environment), and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Excellent verbal, written, and keyboarding skills are essential, along with the ability to process requests for emergency assistance from 911 and traditional phone lines. Also, a candidate must have the ability to maintain professional working relationships with other agencies and the ability to focus on the expectations required of the position. A candidate must have the availability to work any shift within a 24 hour period, including some holidays and weekends.
Applicants for this position must be at least 21 years old, have no criminal record, possess a High School Diploma or equivalent (Associates Degree preferred), have the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, possess a valid driver’s license from their State of residence, and must be a U.S. citizen. Bi-lingual and dispatching experience is a plus.
Applicants are required to complete and pass a dispatching skill test ($20.00 test fee), a professional interview board, a medical examination including a drug screen, psychological and polygraph examinations, as well as an extensive background investigation including a criminal records check.
Benefits are provided under the Plaistow Police Collective Bargaining Agreement with Teamsters Local 633. They include, but are not limited to, health, dental, life insurance, earned time off, holiday pay, and short & long term disability.
Starting hourly rate is $17.62
