ZBA IS SEEKING ALTERNATE MEMBERS

Are you looking to become more involved in the community, but don't have the kind of time it might take to be on the Planning Board or Budget Committee? Can you be impartial and fair and follow guidelines provided to you? Then please consider applying to be an alternate member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA).

The Plaistow Zoning Ordinances (town laws) are voted on by YOU the residents of Plaistow. However, since each property in Plaistow is unique in it's own way, there are instances where the one-size-fits-all approach of a zoning ordinance is punitive to a land owner. That's why the ZBA exists.

The ZBA is a quasi-judicial board charged with granting appropriate forms of relief (variance, special exception, equitable waiver) for applications where the strict enforcement of a specific Ordinance would be punitive because of the uniqueness of a parcel in the zoning district where it is located. The criteria for when relief is appropriate is defined in the State RSAs (state laws). The ZBA also hears cases of Administrative Appeals of decisions made by the Zoning Official and/or Code Enforcement Officer.

The ZBA meets once a month, usually the last Thursday of each month, and only when applications are received. Training and support are provided at no cost to the member.
