Zoning Board of Adjustment Meeting CANCELED

Megaphone Alert

An alert was issued that this area can expect a “high-impact, multi-faceted, severe weather event” which is predicted to be “the most severe event we have experienced this summer, if not in the last few years” and the “hazards that are in play include brief tornadoes, straight-line wind damage, and flooding rains” with the storm’s impact expected between 4:00PM and 8:00PM.  The full text of the alert is below.

After consultation with the Town’s Emergency Management Department, who noted the anticipated timing and that extra staff has been called up for this event, and with much consideration for the safety of the Board members, staff, legal counsel, applicant, and any interested members of the public, the chair has made the very difficult decision to cancel tonight’s ZBA meeting.

This was not an easy decision, and it was only made after consultation with local EMD officials, online weather information, and local news stations.  Decisions such as this are usually only necessary in the winter, but public safety is a priority concern all year round.  Even though New England weather can change in minutes, it was considered important to make the decision when it was made to ensure adequate time to notify all parties. The public hearing will be re-noticed for the August 31, 2023, meeting.
